For Addison, the journey to homeownership started with one simple truth: “I knew I was never going to be able to afford a home on my own.”
A single mother and Berthoud native, Addison wears many hats. She works full-time in the community as a financial services representative at Adams Bank & Trust, bartends part-time at The Derby Bar & Grill, and still finds time to partner with Berthoud Habitat for Humanity by completing her sweat equity hours.
When Addison found out she was selected as a Berthoud Habitat homeowner, she was overwhelmed with gratitude. “My whole heart felt like it was going to explode with happiness,” she remembers.
But the story doesn’t stop there. Addison has been building her future from the ground up—literally. Her family, who have deep roots in the construction industry, have donated hundreds of hours working side-by-side with Addison and Berthoud Habitat for Humanity volunteers.
“I’ve learned so much—how to run power tools, how to use a saw, and how good it feels to have people show up for you just because they care,” she said. “Everyone at Habitat has such huge, giving hearts.”
Addison’s house isn’t just a structure. It’s a foundation for her daughter’s future. A place where they can finally feel stable. Safe. Home.
"I’ve always dreamed of a place where my daughter can have her own room, where we don’t have to move every year, and where she can make friends and memories. This is it."
Thanks to Addison’s hard work—and the generosity of volunteers and donors—those dreams are becoming a reality.
And she’s already thinking ahead. She hopes to go back to school, start making memories with her daughter, and someday take her on a real vacation.
“If it weren’t for this program, we’d probably be stuck in a tiny one-bedroom apartment forever, paying a ridiculous amount for the bare minimum. But now, I can build something better.”
Addison is the hero of her story. We’re just honored to be part of the team that walked alongside her.
